T&T Supermarket Opens on Geary Nov. 5: What San Francisco Job Seekers Should Know

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The long-empty former Best Buy box at City Center finally has a tenant with a date. T&T Supermarket, Canada's largest Asian grocery chain, opens its first San Francisco store at 9 a.m. on Thursday, November 5, at 2675 Geary Boulevard, the corner of Geary and Masonic. For job seekers in the Richmond, Laurel Heights and Western Addition, it is one of the larger new retail employers to land on the west side lately, and the hiring is not finished.

A 50,000-square-foot grocery with a cafe, bakery, hot food bar and live seafood is four weeks from opening, and the city says it still has hiring needs.

What's Coming to Geary and Masonic

T&T took over the City Center space in March 2025 after an earlier Whole Foods plan for the site stalled. The San Francisco store will be the chain's second in the Bay Area, after San Jose's Westgate location, and the first T&T in the U.S. with its own cafe. According to San Francisco Chronicle and SFist reporting, it will carry live seafood, specialty meats, a large produce department, Korean and Japanese skincare, and a deep prepared-food lineup: hot food bar, BBQ, sushi, dim sum and pastries.

A store this size, with this many made-to-order counters, runs on far more than cashiers. Each department needs its own crew.

💼 Who's Already Been Hired, and What's Still Open

The hiring started well before the ribbon cutting. Minutes from the September 2 meeting of the city's Workforce Investment San Francisco board report that the Office of Economic and Workforce Development's employer services team supported a T&T hiring event that drew more than 500 attendees, produced 200 interviews and ended with 190 job offers. The same minutes note ongoing hiring needs ahead of the November opening.

Here is the honest part: T&T has not published a public headcount for the remaining openings, and it has not announced a second hiring event. The minutes don't say which roles were filled. If you missed the first round, get your resume ready and watch for new postings over the next four weeks.

Based on the store's departments, roles to watch for include grocery and produce associates, cashiers, bakery and cafe staff, prepared-food cooks, sushi and BBQ counter staff, seafood and meat department clerks, and shift supervisors.

💵 The Pay Floor at This Address

Because the store sits inside city limits, San Francisco's own minimum wage applies, not the state rate. The city's minimum wage ordinance set the floor at $19.61 an hour as of July 1, 2026. Remember that the address where the work is performed decides the floor, so the same grocery job outside city limits can carry a different minimum. T&T has not published starting pay for the San Francisco store, and the floor is a legal minimum, not a promise of what the job pays.
